I think that this is possibly one of my most asked questions as a wedding stationer “How many wedding invitations should we order?”
One thing that I will initially say to you is don’t feel silly for asking the question because actually, it’s quite confusing for you as a newly engaged couple (and you also want to get it right!)
Okay so as a rule of thumb there are quite a few options to go with for ordering your wedding invitations (and save the dates, thank you cards too!)
i – 1 per household or family living within the same house
ii – 1 per couple (even if they’re living in separate houses)
iii – Single relatives or friends = 1 each
So, it’s great that you’ve made your list and you’ve got it in front of you. You then take it to your stationer and they get designing and printing your invitations. Oh, wait! Your Uncle Bob who’s come out of the woodwork now needs an invitation and your parents have now said that they’d like to invite Nora from over the road… you get the gist. Your numbers have now started to increase and you’ve to go back to your stationery requesting more. This is not a problem however, it can become very costly for you as most stationers have a minimum order charge due to either set up and design, printing fees or both!
As a general rule I would recommend that you over-order by 10%. This then means that if you get any later-comers or you forgot someone off your list then it won’t generate an additional cost to you.
